Aretha Greatrix, also recognized as SimplyAretha online, is a dynamic force in the realm of Indigenous storytelling. Born and raised in Edmonton, AB, and proudly representing the Keshetchewan First Nation, Aretha's journey is a testament to her multifaceted identity.
As the owner and Executive Producer of Ready Up Productions Inc., Aretha leverages the transformative power of storytelling to illuminate pressing issues. Her documentaries explore the poignant narratives of residential schools, reconciliation, and the enduring legacy of the sixties scoop, serving as catalysts for education and awareness within Indigenous communities and beyond.
In addition to her filmmaking pursuits, Aretha serves as a Program Director for the Dreamspeakers Festival Society, curating Canada's oldest and longest-running Indigenous film festival. Through her role, she annually programs the Dreamspeakers International Indigenous Film Festival in Edmonton, Alberta, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023.
